Ford Transition: Made for Making FREE family craft activities Eastleigh Museum Market Street, Eastleigh SO50 5LF Friday 26 July & Monday 5 August 2019 Sessions at 11am, 1pm & 3pm In these free family workshops, led by artist Jackie Rolls, children will use their practical and creative skills to turn everyday materials and recycled materials from Southampton’s scrap store into fun or useful items, just as Ford factory workers did with left-over materials from the factory floor.  Friday 26 July: Make your own balloon powered vehicle  Monday 5 th August: Create your own wind powered weathervane FREE but please book your place by contacting Eastleigh Museum on T: 023 8064 3026 or pop into the museum and sign up.  The sessions are funded by Radian and supported by members of the Wide Lane Round About cafĂ©’s craft group. Ford Transition: From Making to Moving     Exhibition at Eastleigh Museum Market Street, Eastleigh SO50 5LF 29 June – 20 September 2019   “I’ve been away, come back and the building has gone. So, it’s the phoenix story, isn’t it? Out of the ashes – rebuild.” When the Ford Transit Assembly Plant in Swaythling, Southampton closed down in 2013, it brought to an end over 70 years of manufacturing history at the Wide Lane site. In its place today stands a high-tech logistics business park. From Making to Moving tells this story of transition – from building planes, helicopters and vans to shifting goods – through the voices of the men and women who worked there. Personal memories and reflections give a glimpse into the conditions, atmosphere, camaraderie and banter on the production line.
