Hands up if you could help create a Pop-Up Museum in Swaythling



We are seeking volunteers to help us create and deliver a pop-up museum launching in two cargo containers at a site in Swaythling in April 2018.

The Curation Team will meet on Tuesdays, 1-3pm at Swaythling Neighbourhood Centre from Tuesday 31 October

The Community Enterprise Team will meet on Thursdays, 4-6pm at the Round About cafe on Wide Lane, Swaythling from Thursday 2 November.

Volunteers in the curation team will plan and deliver the museum by:

  • Liaising with the exhibition design consultant to devise a plan for the museum
  • researching the history of the site in local archives
  • Transcribing recorded oral history interviews
  • Listening to recorded interviews and selecting content for the museum
  • Selecting and collating archive content for the museum
  • Writing text panels and taking photos for film, website and print
  • Running the museum over 7 days in Easter 2018

Volunteers in the community enterprise team will plan and deliver the museum by:
  • Liaising with the steering team to devise a plan for the museum
  • Liaising with a team of volunteers to build the 3D elements of the museum interior
  • Marketing the museum through print, online and media channels
  • Writing blogs and publicity material
  • Engaging with potential audiences through community talks and public presentations
  • Running the museum over 7 days in Easter 2018
Volunteers in the Community Enterprise team who complete 60 hours of volunteering activities will have the opportunity to gain a Level 2 Award of Personal Effectiveness accredited by ASDAN.
